opinions on what I should do to my rims.. been doing a lot of searching and research.. painting the rims may work easier and faster then powdercoating and you do not take the chance of screwing them up.. read a lot of horror stories of companies that screw up yours rims if they make any mistakes while powdercoating..but paint can wear off, even if you clear coat.. I wish i had rims protectors.. if i did i would paint them today..



anyways.. anyone done either??

powdercoating is a thick baked on finish, have you thought about black oxiding this rims, little to do for the coater so less chance of a mistake.Not sure how black the coating can will be when finished, varies

Powder coating is very durable........but with aluminum rims...years ago when I had a 1973 Trans Am I restored.....I glass beaded my rims....almost like sandblasting. Cleaned them up very nice, the roughing up was almost microscopic....and then we applied 3 coats of clear to them.



Easy to wash and never a problem....changing tires on rims...make sure like any good wheel, the nylon cover is used on the bar.

still on the fence as I am unable to find a good powder coater in the area that anyone has recommended....

I'm going to start a search myself on this since I just picked up a nice set or 22's for my H3 that need a good re-finish on them.

Derek ended up painting his rims.  You might want to collaborate with him on his results of his search so you are not doing the same thing he has already done.

I will get the name of a place in Hamilton. They are the best company to refinish aluminum rims. I have a friend who ownes a rim shop and all the high end rims go there. A friend of mine had his BBS rims scored by the dealership when he was getting his tires changed and I got in touch with the guys in Hamilton and they did a perfect job, I couldn't see any flaws in their work. I don't have the name of the company but will dig it up.

Sounds good. I would like to do them in black and stay away from any chrome. I'll snap a few pics of how bad these rims look. He had switched them under warranty once already and then the next time the chrome started to go it was too late so he just let them go.

I did a lot of work to get mine done..they look great..

What method did you use to remove the chrome? Mine is pitted and flaking off very bad right now. I've read methods involing aircraft aluminum remover, Glass blasting or even using baking soda instead.
