X-Driven hi-def Dashboard Cam

Post by rtksurveyor »

Ever wanted to have a record of that accident that you got in from the drivers perspective showing how fast you were going or if you arrived first at the 4 way stop? Or even the mind games that a Cop my play with you at the side of the road?

I bought this Dashboard cam as a response to an accident I got into with another vehicle.

It runs all the time (depends on how your 12v cig lighter powers when your key is out). H2s have power all the time.

Records to an SD card which is automaticaly formatted when you put it into the device.

Software is easy to run on a PC. Settings from the factory are good enough but you can bump up the res.

This device records Georeferenced Video that plays back with a moving map (GOOGLE).

This device also has an adjustable 3 axis G sensor that can be set to whatever you feel is appropriate.

When the G-sensor is triggered, the device goes back 5 seconds into its memory and starts a fresh and PROTECTED video file which continues for 30 seconds and then saves.

Video is recorded in 5 min blocks and the total storage would depend on how large the SD card is that you are currently using.

I have maxed my upload quota so I can't send video from my last mudding session but it is fantastic. Camera mounts to your front window.

Here is a link to the site. I bought mine on ebay a few years ago and actualy videoed a few accidents since I installed it in the vehicle(all minor fender benders).

Youtube has a few videos of this thing in action.

Cool stuff!

I almost hit a guy with my H1 this week. A small Toyota truck with a plow! He was plowing a driveway and he backed up completely in the middle of the road while I was coming. I jerked the wheels to the left and missed him by a hair, then hit the snowbank on the other side of the road and drifted back into my lane! Good thing there was no traffic on the other side! Should of seen the expression on the guys face when he saw my Hummer coming straight at him! He probably saw his life flash in front of his eyes <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... oflmao.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rotflmao:' />

Would of been great to have that video to show the cops!

What did that xdriven set you back and where did you pick it up from - or did you buy it right off the sight for the $349 price?

I think it was the same price but I purchased it a few years ago.

Properly set up with the G sensor not kicking off when you hit any bumps in the road, shows on the screen how fast your were travelling at the time and what this clown was doing to cause your near miss.

If you have a laptop in your vehicle, you can play back the footage to the cop that shows up to back up your statement that you were not speeding, etc....

This thing is great at the 4 way stops. The G sensor shows the reverse lurch that you experience when you actualy come to a full stop. The video is VERY wide angle so you can in most cases see the entire intersection. Video dosen't get washed out when you are facing the setting sun either. I don't know how they did it but this thing is the real deal. It is a very well thought out device.

I don't have any complaints about it other than it should have had a track feature like the garmin nav units you can buy.

You have to watch that you turn it off if you leave the vehicle for a few days as it can (and has with me) drain your battery.

I recently discovered a feature that lets you write out captured video (no audio, probably for a good reason) to your computer.

When I get some more upload room I will contribute a nice mudding video.

That camera sounds like it might be what I'm looking for. I was thinking of getting a GoPro for accident recording but was told it's not the most ideal setup for that, as it constantly records and doesn't index where anything happened and doesn't loop record.

So thanks for that info. Image

This camera is specificaly designed for Black Box use. I have had one for a few years and have had no issues.

I would like to somehow transfer the video ALONG with the data to a standard video format but have had no luck so far.

You won't be dissapointed. The closer you look at this product, the more you discover that they put a lot of thought into the design.

The fact that the data and audio is missing from the video helps if you were talking on a cell phone while the accident happened and giving this to your insurance broker would hurt your claim.

I am off the cell phone grid so this is not an issue for me.

I have seen a lot of crazy things on the road though and I am hoping that another of those shows up and gets caught on video. I am talking real youtube stuff here.

I got one of these for my daily driver: a BlackVue DG400 HD camera... it is tucked up becide my rear view mirror and not noticable at all. Very decent system and computer friendly, also has GPS which allows you to track speed and even location using a map program that comes with it. In addition to that it has 3 axis G-sensors which can activate the camrea when you are parked. Very customizable setup, G-sensitivity, how long you want each block, resolution, sound, overlay of things like speed, time and date.

Even at night it takes remarkably good video
