Canadian Hummer Club Forums

The Canadian HUMMER Club Edmonton Chapter is planning on a get together in the Rocky Mountains and we are looking for input from all members. We have narrowed the event down to three weekends and we would like to know which date works best for you. All Canadian Hummer Club members are invited!



Right now, the biggest thing planned for the event, other than the drive itself, is spending a day in Banff or Jasper, looking around and shopping. (Whether we go to Banff or Jasper will depend on what people pick.) There are other things to do in the area, and I will be updating this post as I research more and give costs. If anyone has any suggestions for things to do, I would love to hear from you.



This will be a two-day event, due to the distances involved, but if someone wants to leave early, there is nothing wrong with that. Because the dates involved are in the low season, costs will be quite minimal. I have been looking at hotels and resorts near Saskatchewan River Crossing, and costs range from $100 - $250 per night. When more details and confirmations are made, I will narrow down hotels and costs here.



The dates that we are looking at so far are the weekend of Saturday, December 2, Saturday, December 9, and Saturday, December 16. The following weekends are too close to Christmas and hotel costs increase again.



I would love the opportunity to meet other owners and spend an evening shooting the breeze, as well as enjoying the drive through the Rocky Mountains with other Hummer enthusiasts. We need some mountains over here in Ontario. Not much to climb here. lol.

That is a really good idea. The lodges at JPL have several bedrooms and the livingroom would be a great place to entertain. I will call the lodge and find out if something is available and at what cost.



Depending on where the Christmas party is, I do not know if I will be attending or not.

There are plenty of things that I would like to see in Ontario, too. I have not been in Ontario since I was nine years old, and I do not remember much about it. I saw Niagara Falls and I remember seeing waterfalls in Thunder Bay, but that is about all I remember. Someday I hope to make it there again.

Renting one of the cabins is quite cost-prohibitive. I just called Fairmont and they want $950 per night for the two-bedroom cabin and $1,400 per night for the three-bedroom cabin. This is a lot more than the other places I was looking at.



Aurum Lodge is the place that I was looking at, and because we would be staying during the low season, rooms start at $110 per night. It is a few kilometers east of the Jasper Park gates, and would be a nice place to settle down for the night, I think.

That might be an option! I would guess about 5 people so far. It's really hard to guess with the local group because a lot of people might seem interested, but only a few show up to things. (They would need to reserve with this, obviously, so it might be different.) But I would guess about 5. No more than 10 though, as far as I can tell. The individual rooms might not be too bad there, at least from my experience. Lizz was just thinking that one of the multi-room cabins might be nice for socializing. (They just called them two-bedroom cabins and superior three-bedroom cabins on the telephone, for reference.)

I was tentatively planning on groups departing from Edmonton and Calgary and meeting in Red Deer, and then travelling west along Highway 11. There are a few resorts and hotels just a few kilometers east of the park gates, and we could call it an early night and shoot the breeze for a few hours, before continuing on to Jasper or Banff, depending on which works best, and do some shopping and exploring. (I really miss the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Jasper!) But we can make changes as things develop. I hope to meet a couple other owners next Thursday, so maybe we can finalize some things. It would be great to meet other owners.
