AM General has New Boss at the TOP

New CEO has 37 years' experience in defense industry.

SOUTH BEND — Charles M. Hall, a former executive with General Dynamics, has joined AM General as president and chief executive officer.



James A. Armour, chairman of AM General, said he is looking forward to working closely with Hall. "With his 37 years of defense industry experience spanning production, manufacturing and management positions, Charlie is the ideal choice to move into this senior leadership role with AM General," he said in a release.



Hall most recently served as executive vice president and group executive of General Dynamics' Combat Systems group before retiring May 1. Armour, who has led AM General since 1988 and will continue as its chairman, will pass on his duties as CEO to Hall.



AM General produces the Humvee for the U.S. armed forces and more than 50 foreign militaries. It also builds specialized vehicles for the commercial auto industry.



A native of Michigan, Hall obtained his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University and a master's degree in business management from Central Michigan University. He joined General Dynamics in 1973.



"I'm absolutely delighted to join the 2,500 members of the AM General family who have already distinguished themselves in the defense and commercial automotive sectors," he said. "We have exciting work ahead of us as we continue our legacy of innovation and I look forward to continuing to serve our U.S. and international military and commercial customers."





AM General is working with General Dynamics Land Systems on the development of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, the eventual replacement for the Humvee. The team is one of three finalists for the military contract.



AM General officials could not be reached for additional comments.
