Did you know?

Post by Boeing Jet »

2004 Hummer H1

6.5L turbo-diesel V-8.

Fuel tank holds 25 gallons.

Has a cruising range of 400 miles at an average of 30-40 mph over a hard surface and rolling terrain.

That's 16 mpg.

2004 HUMMER H2 SUV

Vortec 6000 6.0L V-8.

Fuel tank holds 32 gallons.

Cruising range of 310 miles at an average of 30-40 mph over a hard surface and rolling terrain.

That's 9.6 mpg

While military Humvees have a snorkel kit extending the exhaust and air intake to roof level, making it possible to operate in 60 inches of water, Civilian Hummers cannot use the snorkel kit because the dash, fuses, alternator, power steering cap, transmission controller, radio, and engine controller are not waterproof.

As a Class 3 truck, Hummers are exempt from many DOT safety regulations such as passive restraints and third brake lights. However, they do have to have padded dashes, collapsible steering columns, steel roofs and doors, and lights (including clearance lights on front and rear).

Wonder how the stats rank against all the other 6.5TD's in the other model years (Non-Optimizer motors).

Over the last 3-4 years I've been keeping track, I get 13mpg on my 6.5 1998 soft top daily driver. That's an overall average, 80% city driving short distances and 20% highway/off road. If I did more highway driving, I'd get probably closer to 15.

Pushing past 63-65 mpg kills the mileage, as will stop and go traffic.
