Block Heater

Post by R Cullen »

I don't seem to notice much difference in starting my 96 H1 (diesel) when I forget to plug in the block heater. Is there usually a noticeable difference? Is there any way to definitively determine how well the block heater is functioning?

I notice a huge difference with mine.  Mind you, I normally only use the block heater at below -10 Celcius.  <DIV>When you have it plugged in, you should be able to hear a sound coming from under the hood.  It's faint, and sounds a bit like a kettle, but if you listen for it, you should be able to hear it.  It may take a minute or two to get going after you plug it in.</DIV><DIV> </DIV>

Had the block heater replaced, and its obvious that the old one was shot. We've had a few really cold nights, and in the morning it cranks right over. Thanks for the input again.
