Winch Shootout

Post by Archngel »

Hi everyone

Since i've been a part of the CHC familly, I've read almost all topics in the forum and well, I've seen over time lots of question about winches, what is best , what is suitable for such and such application, what is suitable for my vehicle and more.. not to forget the security while using them

Today I've been across a very good article by Four Wheeler magazine. I think it gives a very good description of almost every winches on the market in the 9500lbs bracket. I'm just a bit disappointed that Mile Marker and Ramsey decline the invitation to the shootout, because some has them in the familly ( CHC )

SO here the link for a good read, and some good information about winches for everyone that has one and anyone looking for one.

Multi-Winch Shootout

PS although I tend to agree with the few comment that the posters have made regarding 1st 2nd and 3rd places,, nominating the Warn at 1 place after failing the stall test. Leaving the only Engo and the TMax fully operational after all test leaves me with a bit of perplex on how much favoritism was used in this shootout.

When I read that article, I was really upset! How could a winch that failed still win the test??? I was however very pleased that the T-Max (My Winch) did exceptionally well dispite the comments in the artcile. There was a lot of backlash for that test in the magazine btw. Most people where pissed that Just because the name is Warn it still won, eventhough it failed miserably!

Reading is one thing...using them on the trails is another....to each their own...I hate to say it...

I do have the 9.5 warn on my H2...and it is not the same one that is installed on the H1...

How about you bring those WARNs to TMAX country and we will see who survives! I already killed one WARN on an H1 Last year on my trails when Tony and Dan came...Dare to put your WARNs to the test???

this is a battle that all offroaders have had for years and will continue to have.....as for the challenge.. I would be happy to come and I hope we can use them not just bang them up..as for burning them out..well there are always options..I have not seen one die yet..maybe those were over worked or not properly maintained..not sure.. I know what I have used and seen...anyways this always makes a great debate let it continue...

When I used to work for the Hummer Dealer, back when there was only H1s, I would see at least 1 warn die per trip out, mostly due to overheating.

2 years ago we even saw new warns fail!

We even changed out a warn for a tmax in the mud at 1am just to be able to get the H2 out!

So you accept my challenge do you???

My Trails can require you to winch alot! And they are normally hard, long pulls, so be ready for a workout!

Sounds like we are going to have on very own Winch Shootout!
