Local Sections?

Post by Sugarphreak »

Any thoughts on adding in a local sections area to the forum?

It would be nice to have an area where we could stage trail runs, events or even just for chit chatting about local topics.

A few other nice thing about local sections is you can usually sticky a "Introduce yourself" thread at the top so you can get to know your area members a bit better. Another is if you are traveling you can post up in the local thread you are going to be traveling into with any questions or looking into what the local chapter is up to. Also right now I find it difficult to figure out who lives where and often local runs get buried quickly in the events thread.

Just a thought, we had the administration introduce a local Calgary section on our FitFreak forum about mid 2007; to date we have had 184 threads with 6369 separate posts.

The problem with 'local' boards is that we would need so many.

As far as local events getting 'buried' this should not ever happen.

We look at new event postings and 'sticky' them until the event is over, and also add them to the calendar. This assumes the event is posted as a new post, not tacked on to an existing thread.

Post your event as a new post and it will be 'stickied'. If not, let admin know.

Now, with regards to "A few other nice thing about local sections is you can usually sticky an "Introduce yourself" thread at the top so you can get to know your area members a bit better".

This would mean all members would have to be given the ability to 'sticky' their posts.

This would lead to more stickied posts than non. Not feasible. Only Moderators and Administrators can 'sticky' a post.

As far as where people are situated there are privacy issues here.

Members can show their location in their signature if they so wish, but the Forum team may not disclose it without permission.

We much appreciate your thoughtful suggestions, and are always open to others.

Thanks
