Install Scanner in OnStar Location

Post by Gadgets »

OK guys, I have completed the installation of my new Police Scanner. It is a Uniden Bearcat 355c scanner, and it was chosen because of it's small size to fit its intended location.

I do not use my OnStar, and could never see me doing so, so figured I would make use of the space. For the antenna I installed a splitter behind the factory radio. This way the scanner will share the existing factory installed antenna and not require one of its own. You can buy these on the internet for $15-$30 (plus shipping) but I put together my own. I used a High Performance 5-2050Mhz splitter ($2.99 Princess auto) and standard cable F-connectors I figure the splitter cost me no more then $6. It works great, there is no sign what so ever of signal loss on either the Scanner or Radio. The pictures before, during, and after, show the proceedure.

Just because I drive a HUMMER don't mean I don't care about the planet.... in fact it means I can get to most parts without any help!
(try that in your prius)

What did the bearcat run you? Ive got one from the previous owner in my truck, but I never had it dialed in/programmed for the local LEO's around here, I should get on that...

It was around $120 CDN after shipping. I bought two at the time, one for my H2 and one for my son's Ranger. Works great. One of the smallest on the market I think.

Thanks Derek, the antenna sharing is working great, today I was in Burlington and was still clearly listening to the st.catharines fire command, and a truck at a scene. So reception is awesome!!

Yup, have gotten stuff there as well, actually I think my K40 CB antenna came from there. This scanner came from Durham Radio in Whitby this time though.
