Recovery straps with a H3

I've read posts and the recovery "bible" but it doesn't show anywhere how to actually connect both sides of the recovery strap from a H3 to another vehicle. If I use d-ring shackles do I use one on vehicles with the welded tow hook and the other on the H3's hitch or the bumper mount? I'd like to clear it up before I buy more equipment. I would figure if the strap goes at least no metal hooks would fly through the window.

I use shackles personally, I don't think I would feel comfortable using a hook just in case.
Basically I have one of these shackles on each end... I hook them up to the tow hooks and they are good to go.

Most tow hooks have sharp edges that will cut straps.
If you put strap through its eye its a cats paw hitch and is so unsafe as to be deemed illeagle by Scouts
We have been pulled back once and strap was placed over our tow hitch ball
alway use shackle as its connected to vehicle if strap breaks shackle stays with vehicle only if tow point fails do you get flying metal.

Sounds good. I've heard Brafasco sells some decent shackles. Might have to check them out on Friday.

Fastenal have good shackles
pt # 0599905 5/8 body/ 3/4 pin, good rating,
0599906 for 3/4 body/ 7/8 pin w a rating of 7T.
all are Equiprite products, forged alloy, painted a bright yellow (for ease of sight in the mud)

Crosby would be the best shackle to get IMO, that is all we spec for lifting at work.

Crosby would be my first (and only) choice for shackles.
I'm an H1 guy and use the 7/8" size, which is oversized.
Crosby products sold in Canada are made in Brampton, Ontario.
They also have manufacturing plants in the U.S. and one in Belgium.
If you want the best, buy Crosby.
If you go with off-shore products, over-size them big time.
Most industrial supply houses carry Crosby products.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
Am I better off putting one end of the recovery strap inside the stock hitch and use a hitch pin to hold it in place or use a shackle on the 1 rear recovery loop on the H3??

The tow hook is put there by the manufacturer to take the stress of the recovery.
Use it. One attachment point on the H3 is something that I don't particularly care for; I suppose it was a space issue.
