Highway Noise

Post by duncanpa »

Okay, someone has to help me. I have a terrible rattle in and around the front windshield ever since I had it replaced. I go between 100 and 120 and the darn thing rattles so loudly, I can't hear my wife talking to me (enjoyable sometimes until she hits me for not turning into where she wanted to go!!). How the heck can this be fixed. I have a 28 hour ride home in 7 days and I can't stand to hear that racket again! (Wife says just drive between 80 -100 km/hr.....NOT!!)

Heres my 2 cents,If you can feel the vibration under your feet, and above 100k,its coming from wheel balancing or mud(ice)in your rims.Normally a bent drive shaft or crooked half shalfs will be felt well below 100KMH.If you only feel the shake upwards, its coming from up top.Do you have a roof rack, light rick, deflector up top.Check to make sure everything is properly tied down.Loose nuts or something uncrewed will probably be the culprit. Please DO NOT have someone stick there head out the window at 100kmh to see if they can spot the problem

Hey Pat,

Take a look at the windshield mouldings for two things.

1. check to make sure they are properly secured

2. If they are tightly in place remove them and check to see if some idiot removed the foam backing behind them that prevents that sound.

Give it a try,

Kev

Try this one after an oil change our Jimmy developed a rattle in the front. After months of searching we found by removing the battery to change it a spare oil filler cap. It seems the dealer replaced the cap when the cap vanished while changing the oil. The cap had fallen between the battery and body. rattle solved.

I am thinking Kev is right as I had the windshield replaced. I will look there first. Already looked through the sunroof at the deflector and everything else up top...all tight and good to go. Kev, without me going out to look, how do those mouldings come off?? Is it relatively easy? What can I do if the idiot took the foam off....silicone??

Got another one now....just after arriving in Florida, I got another new noise. If I turn on the blower for the AC unit, it makes a rattling sound...almost like some leaves have been sucked into the system. Is this possible?? How do I fix this noise...although it is not nearly as bothersome as the other one.
