Hey Guys,
On my way home from work the wipers just came on and I couldn't shut them off... By the time I pulled over and got the fuse out they had stopped (standing straight up) and the motor was making a grinding noise.
Is the motor toast? If so any advice on how to get it out to replace it would be great.
Thanks,
John

Re: Front Wiper Motor Failure?
Assuming an H1 there a few possible causes listed below. If it is an H2-H3 I have not looked at those so cannot comment.
1. gears stripped on the wiper motor - likely caused by one of the wiper arm feed through bushing seizing up.
2. the nut fell off the output shaft and the arm has come disconnected - it happens some times
3. the c clip fell off the wiper arm drive shaft
In all cases you need to get the motor off. The hardest part is getting the plastic cover off - It depends on what year and type of truck you have.
None of the above would account for the wipers coming on by them selves. That could be cause by damage inside the motor such that the park switch is jammed on. This would tend to indicate the motor drive gears are screwed up.
I think there is a NAPA equivalent motor but I don;t know what the number is. Check out chucks site - www.amghummer.com - I think it was listed there somewhere.
