H1 Front Heater
The front heater in my H1 is not blowing very hot air. I know this will be a problem come November when it gets cold and snowy. Is this a common problem. I have changed the thermostat with negative results? Ideas?

What year truck?
Does the blower fan work? Can you change vent positions [def to vents to floor?].
Could be the water valve, those run about 50 bucks, they're located under the coolant tank, you can pull off the air intake horn, and when the truck is cooled down you can unscrew the hose clamps holding the coolant tank in position and you'll see the valve.
It's a black plastic... thing with 4 hoses going into it, 2 into the cab [and the heater core] and 2 from the radiator/engine.
Sometimes previous owners want to dodge a heater core repair [lots of labor] and they'll bypass the switch, the downside is no heat. That could be it, I had that problem with my truck.
After I purchased it, I had no heat, I swapped out the valve, and with the heater working, it promptly dumped coolant all over the passenger floor, I had to get my heater core replaced as well.
In your case it could be just the valve.

Works fine on my trucks. Check the HML or do a google search. I know there are quite a few results.

selector working so vacuum pump is ok,
valve could be screwy, but I suspect a heater core.
Test #1
when engine running warm ,feel both heater hoses, should be very hot, if this is so, fluid is passing well thru heater. if not ..continue #2
Test #2
remove both heater hoses -cold-, flush core with garden hose both directions.re-attach hoses and re do #1.
If nothing seems better, replace heater core. You can , once removed, take the core to a rad shop and they can put a chevy heater core on the extensions,or buy a core at around $300 from AMG. When disconnecting heater block at firewall, take your time not to break the screws!! Do what the book says,no short cuts
