Hey Kevin (or other knowledgable person)
Any tricks for replacing the front wheel bearings on an 08 H2? I'm starting to get a chirping sound in the front that isn't related to the brakes so I have a feeling it's time (100k anyways so it's a safe bet)
I know they are a sealed unit - do they just punch out?
Thanks

Once you disconnect the brakes, you need to unbolt the axle shaft and then the 4 bolts that hold the bearing to the knuckle. You will need impact tools and a BFH to persuade the bearing out! Be careful with the routing of the ABS sensor wire so as not to pinch it!
Hope this helps!

Re: Wheel Bearings
I replaced one on my new to me 2005 H2 SUT and was lucky nothing was rusted in.
15mm socket for the 4 wheel bearing hub bolts
21mm socket for the Brake Caliper Frame bolts
36mm socket for the Axle Bolt
Mine started pulling to the right bad and checked rotors and that wheel was too hot to touch but no noise, let it cool, limped home, bought sockets and new Wheel Hub Assembly and back mobile in 2 hours.
Found about 10 different prices as everyone was different and did not take pics as wanted to get back on the road. Was told by my GM Parts guy all chevy's and H2 from 2003 to 2007 are the same but 2008 is a different part number. Looked at them side by side and the only difference i saw even with a caliper to check spline size was the 03 to 07 part number that I got had longer wheel studs.
My Chevy Truck service manual says to replace the rubber O Ring and new Axle spline Nut each time but both were in good shape and at closing time on saturday, dealer did not have replacement in stock anyway so i reused the original and will replace it when I do the other side and my Truck as well.
My 08 doesn't have near the mileage yet.
Bought mine from Hummer dealer but was looking for this one online http://shocker.ul.net/product.php?produ ... 436&page=1
Hope that helps you out

Shouldn't take long to do just did Rich's in driveway on a 03 H2 it took 2hrs to do both sides, wouldn't hurt if you are doing it yourself to have new brakes on hand after all you are taking them off to do bearings. If they are close to having to be replaced it's all apart anyways!!!!!

Yeah - I just did the brakes, funny part is I guess I should have done the bearings at the same time.... I was thinking about it due to the mileage (Yes I like to drive it everywhere I go...) but decided not too...... Man I hate that Karma thing...

Re: Wheel Bearings
LOL....
So this for the 2008 is quite a bit different (so they say but it was backed up by an aftermarket guy..) than the 2003 - 2007 as I'm sure that's how they made it more expensive...
I actually had Shaw do something nice for me as I was talking with a rep I kinda know.... So in Canada it's $799.08, in the States they are $514.98, Nappa was saying they will be roughly $540 ounce they get them in, where as Shaw said they would give me one for $359.62!! Not friggin bad eh???
I know there's going to be a catch when I go down to pick it up... "Oh, that's if we install it...."
HOLY CRAP!!!!! I just phoned Shaw and they are covered under the Drive Train Warranty!!!!! SWEEET!!!!
I've gone from truly hating them to suddenly not minding them as much..... Of course I am still going to be on guard with them....
