Oh absolutely they're both going back... Should have a good deal on a factory Delco on Monday... I dunno what happens in the reman process but all I can think is the wrong little connector was applied? The Napa one was obviously just the wrong part but this second one is like -->this<-- close to the original. And now I see my dream H2 for sale in Calgary! White low-mile 2006 H2, no modifications, black interior and sunroof... Drrooooolllll................................ Image

Third time's a charm! Back on the road!! Saved $60 on a factory piece so that's good... But still $400~ for an alternator is pretty crazy!!!!!!!!

My god! Now the power steering pump has developed a death squeal!!

No more deep muck for a while I think as it is definitely taking it's toll.......... Dealer price isn't great but I didn't sh!t a brick when they told me the cost so got that coming in any day I hope...

Seriously though, do the H2s have these problems??? I know Nick also lost his alternator and didn't he lose his PS pump as well???

I think I'm gonna try a little experiment and 'fix' the old parts and reinstall them for a week or so... see if you can get some temporary reliability out of them in the event of an emergency. Plus it's just fun to take stuff apart, right?! <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... rgreen.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Can't you pull the alternator out and drop it at an alternator rebuild shop? May be an issue in smaller towns, but I usually can get the alternator rebuilt with all new internals reusing the case and pulley/fan for around $50-70.

I wound up buying a second alternator eventually so I can keep driving while one is getting rebuilt.

Unless there's something special about the H3 Alternator?

That's a good point and something I didn't consider! I've still got the old one in the garage so getting it rebuilt is a great idea, probably just needs a good cleaning and some bearings since even though it sounded deadly it was still operating fine. A spare would be nice to have!!

I don't really know if there's anything special about the alternator but I definitely doubt it? I'm sure it mounts up differently than other GM alternators but internally, could there be anything significantly different? I doubt it..

Yeah, the one on my h1 is an old 120-140 amp Delco Remy alternator. The casing is specific to GM trucks/vans, but the internals is used on a ton of cars from GM and Ford. If you have the case and pulley, they can redo everything else, bearings, rectifier bridge, etc.

Rebuilt with 2 year warranty ran me $70, a "napa special" rebuilt with core charge ran about $130-140 but the pulley was wrong size. A new GM Delco unit from the dealer ran me about 250-300 odd dollars [core was extra but I had an old none working one].

I think the best option is to buy a new one for a good price if you shop around then keep your old one and rebuild it and have a spare. It's overkill but worth it if you plan to keep your truck for a long time.
