H2 Losing coolant

Post by combanx »

Hello Everyone,

Couple of weeks ago I was towing a trailer and noticed that the engine temp was climbing.

Well I ended up at Napa autoparts and purchased a new thermostat. Installed it and added some coolant

and it seemed fine. I do not drive it alot. Next week I wanted to clean up the truck and noticed again the temp was rising put the heating on in truck and it seemed to drop.

Opened engine bay and notice the coolant was down a little.

Added some coolant and it seemed fine. Couple days later I needed to drive to Toronto, as I was driving it seemed fine the temp . When I got there again I noticed the resovoir for the rad was low again, not empty about 1 inch below the mark on the plasic tank.

The coolant in the tank does not seem tobe dirty or anything. Also I noticed that the pressure in the coolant pipes is low.If you squezze it there is almost no pressure.

What could this be there does not seem to be aleak, do not see any coolant on the floor.

Could it be the head gasket.

Any suggestions would be apreciated.

Thanks Paul

Not blue, white as in steam.Blue is oil.Black is excessive fuel.

Does the exhaust smell sweet?

Check passenger floor for coolant.

Once the reservoir is topped up, drive the vehicle, then let it sit (overnight) to cool. This draws the coolant into the rad.Now check the tank level, top up as needed.Run truck for a day or so and check level.

report back when done testing.

You can get the coolant system checked for a leak with a pressure tester/pump.At your local shop or buy one from Princess auto--$50

The original stat may have been okay ,just the system being worked too hard then, human error maybe

Sorry guys I had to go out of town, and just got back this morning.

My son added coolant and drove the truck to and from work. Again he added coolant. Said he put in about 3/4 of inch into reservoir tank. No there is no smoke at all. The coolant is clean etc. The passenger side exhaust manifold seems to have something wrong with it. Sounds like when the muffler has a hole in it.

Whats the warranty on this stuff. I read in the manual that the exhaust has 5 years one hundred thousand. My warranty ended June 2010 however I have 78,000 kilometers on it.

Any help would be great.

You can also email me off list if need be combanx@aol.com

Thanks Paul
