Front end rattle
Hi guys, have a bit(I hope) of a problem with my right front end.I noticed a few weeks ago that there was a strange rattle or wiggle coming front the right front side when I braked. It got a bit worse over the course of a week.I took a look and noticed that the brake disc was lose.I tightened the bolts that hold the halfshaft to the disc(they were a bit loose. The probleme went away for a few days but is back.Any ideas before I take the whole thing apart would be appreciated. Jim

Re: Front end rattle
Replace the bolts and Nor locs right away.Use loctite red or minimum blue when installing.
If they come loose they damage the mounting flange and can ,when loose enough, damage the caliper slide plate.

Re: Front end rattle
OK,had a good look this morning. The problem is on the differential side of the brake. The brake disk is secure and has nor-loc's.I can shake the halfshaft around quite a bit.The brake disk follows the movement but there is lots of slack on the differential side. So,I assume the problem is there. Is there a sleave with bearing on the differential side?

there is a nut holding the hub flange onto the diff. Remove the cv shaft, at flange, and check nut for tightness thru the rotor. If all is tight, some movement is always there as it is a single bearing holding this flange.

Thanks Roy,while I was under ,I compared the right to left for movement. Not the same at all.Mouvement on good side is all lateral,on bad side its its ,well,I can tilt the brake disk somewhat. So,I will have to open it up and see about the bolt and bearing you are talking about. Thanks Roy

Re: Front end rattle
My mechanic took a good look at the differential side of my brake caliper and says the problem is coming from inside the differentiel. He says he is not properly equiped and not too familiar with fifferential, refered me to a specialist.Thinks it could be a bearing that is wearing out.

Re: Front end rattle
roy is right ......make sure you look at the flange nut before!!!! you need to take the cv shaft off first ...good luck !!!!!
