Looking to lift my H2 6" and fit 40's ?s

Post by hustler »

Im not gonna lie, My H2 is a pavement princess....
But i really want big mudders on her and I dont think mud grapplers any bigger that 35's will work without going up.
Ive got my eye on a fabtech 6" lift and I want to try 40" mudgrapplers with it. If it wont fit in the garadge then I can do the gobi roof rack as well to achieve the look im going for.
I assume i will have to change the gears as well? And i have a supercharger so now im worried I will cook the tranny?
I dont do many long hauls with her other than a few hrs with my boat and she never sees the mud so I shouldnt need to go to aggressive with the 4x4 gear will i?
And advice or info would be greatly appreciated as this is my first time going up.... My last few rides were dropped with bags :)
Here she is now

I'm not sure I would bother... the bigger tires will be a negative for towing.

Why do you want 40" tires and 6" lift for driving on the pavement? Your fuel economy will be abysmal and you won't fit under / in anything.

If your in the Toronto area you might want to ask Extreme Customs on Royal York Rd south of Evans. They have done a lift and a refit ( another kit ) on an H2 owner runs the bakery/deli just to the north of shop. ( second kits install suggests that owner wasn't happy with the results) Rhino is getting a 4" Rancho lift kit is being installed by Rock Spider in Markham he does a lot of lifts.

Rosco on this site is running a 6 inch lift with 39.5 inch tall tires I believe right now.

You should touch base with him. He puts a lot of miles on his truck and I believe the transmission and gearing is stock.

With merely a leveling kit you can fit 38s Under any H2! So you really don't need a 6inch lift since you don't go offroad, you are not going to have to worry about rubbing during suspesnion compression. You could get a Rancho 4" kit and be done !

Still not sure why you want 40s on a truck that won't go offroad and you are going to be towing but you will need to regear!

I run 5.38 gears in my H2 and I can pull a house off it's foundation! I only have 37/38 tires on my H2.

IF you have alot of hilly terrain, then gearing will be a must!

To help your transmission live a happy life I would also suggest that you get your H2 computer reflashed, both to correct for the larger tires and to change engine parameters to take full advantage of the Supercharger. Most tunes will raise your line pressure and help the transmission shift sooner when needed and hold gears a little longer when Under load.

Btw, Your H2 already looks great!

Well first of all thanks for all the info guys, its kind of hard to explain.
Im in alberta so there are very few hills. And this is also part of the reason for the lift and mudders....Just want to fit in :)
The way it sits now i just rub on the door in the garadge so if i change anything else she wont fit in there.....So its a go big or go home kind of thing now if shes stuck outside all year.
I dont care to much for fuel economy its already shot with the premium for the charger as long as it still works towing the boat.
I really love this truck i just want it bigger :)

Dude... I don't recommend at all....

37's absolute max! I'm lifted 4" and I still rub at times so I disagree ( which I rarely do...) with Kevin. Both my front wheel wells have damage from the tires rubbing... And I notice a huge difference with going to the larger tires so regearing would be a must otherwise you'll burn out the engine or supercharger...

Then there is the front end components... H2's weakest point is the front... The hubs have a hard time with the larger tires.. Gaza actually had one break off and he runs 38's...

So to be honest... It won't be worth all the anguish later on...

Ill add my 2 cents.

I've got a 6" lift, and i'm running 38's. the only time I get rubbing is when on full lock and going up something causing the wheel to go right into the well,

Engine is all stock, have got a superchips programmer so adjusted for tire size, and lately have been running on the tow tune as have done a lot of pulling a boat in recent times, with the boat on I still average 13mpg, without the boat my average is closer to 14, I have kept a running track off all my fill ups to date.

As for hubs, I had to replace one, used a genuine hub and is still fine (there was an issue with some lug nuts at one point as some people will be able to remember), running on the moog tie rod ends since I switched from the stock, they as didn't last. i have done over 20k since the switch of hubs and tie rods.

I owned an H2 previously as well and I had to replace one hub on that at about 40k, it was all stock and lightly offroaded, if they are gonna go then its gonna happen if you are stock or not, don't replace with a cheapo hub or stock tie rod.

As for the other front end components, i've done 35k on my H2 in 1 year and 3 months, have offroaded pretty well with some towing too, and all I have replaced is one hub (which was on the way out when I got the truck) and 2 tie rod ends (which were both stock when I got the truck) and an alternator.

I don't think I go particularly lightly when offroading either so i'm surprised I haven't killed more things.

I don't know about re-gearing, personally in my situation I wouldn't see the point, I drive plenty of highway miles and I've never felt like it was performing bad or revving unusually, only thing about towing is when its 30+ degrees out and going up a long hill, if I push it a bit hard and the revs come up so does the temp, 113 after a long pull, where its normally sitting about 98. maybe regearing would change that or up the mpg a bit, but 13-14mpg is acceptable for me and the towing performance is fine for what I do.
