2008 Hummer PCM replacement

Post by Khamul »

I need to put an end to my charging woes...

has anyone ever replaced the PCM on a 08+ H 2? If so - what brand?

What a butthead design of GM to have the alternator controlled b the PCM, I've had numerous issues with the charging system, 3 alternators and 3 batteries later... Time for a permanent fix.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave!

Happy New Year!!

Since your are in Alberta, why not drop a line to Wester's Garage and they will send you replacement ECU and reflash it to give you more power and better mileage. And you will have a new ECU to boot!!!

It will cost you under $600. I think it would be a great way to repair your issue!

You can also have them calibrate your speedometer for your 37s and adjust the 6L80E shift points...your H2 will never be the same!

And yes, they did my tune for my H2!

Hope this helps!

This may be a stupid question: is the PCM and ecu 2 separate components? I have seen them referenced separately and I have seen them referenced as the same item....

Actually you are correct!

On the 2008 and 2009 with the 6.2L and the 6speed, their is an ECM for the Engine and a TCM for the transmission. On the older H2s we have a PCM which is both ECM and TCM in one unit.

Wester's is still your best choice for the ECM and they can simply reflash your TCM to help firm up your shifts and adjust for the 37s.

Hope this helps!

O! That makes sense...

Sp the ECM is under the hood and obvious... Where is the TCM?

You are gonna love this!!!

Inside the Transmission!!!

On the 6L80E and 6L90E the TCM replaces most of the electrical components of the valve body and since it is internal to the transmission also reduces alot of wiring!

But yes, Wester's can still reflash it!!

I knew it!!

So I spoke ( emailed ) with them.... They suggest getting a reflash from gm first regarding the alternator issue.... So there is more money there as they definitely won't do it for free, and to be honest.... sHAW GMC is sooo incompetent, I don't want them touching my truck...

So I think I may order the raptorq computer upgrade off of teakatoys (I couldn't copy the link - it's in the performance section) and hope that cures the issue as it should have the latest software....

I second Polar Bear's recommendation.  I had my truck tuned and it makes a huge difference.  If you have changed anything from stock (intake, tires, gears, cats, exhaust), keep the dealerships away from your computer.

Exactly.... That's what this raptorq is - will have all the latest software as well as a +64 hp tune (I'm sure that's generous) so will go that route when I have the $$

I want to replace my ECM due to the issues I have been having.... Westers garage couldn't help with that issue...

Is there any one in Toronto that does this service,to replace and reflash the ECU to give more power and better mileage.
If so could I get the number.
