oh ya and as for ecu, I am up in the air as to what kinda of tune to get, i dont want to dump to much fuel into and burn up the motor.
if your truck is pre 97 you might get lucky and just need to add a chip to the ECU, a friend of mine used to work for BD diesel and they had chips up to 80hp for about $270
if you need a ECU you are starting at $650 and going up from there plus a core charge...
i have been researching, the following ones Predator, ssdiesel, heath, Kennedy and BD, so far no winner...
and i am doing a offroad test pipe and muffler delete, i think i may just bring the exhaust out infront of the wheel well, but i will have to see how much clearance there is with the body lift...

Im gonna be the devil's advocate here and challenge the idea to make more power. Ive wheeled my truck rather hard, and have put it thru the paces, and never once have I found myself stuck as a result of lack of power. A lot of components can be upgraded on the truck before more power is really needed, which in the case of my '01, is why I'll be doing Auburn ECTED lockers (F&R), and other such modifications. The problem you'll see is that when putting down more power, rather than better utilizing the power you already do have on the truck (gearing, lockers, upgraded suspension/drivetrain components etc), you'll arguably see more frequent breakage on most trucks.
That said, I will likely be doing an exhaust modification, but its really only cuz I love the sound of a hollowed out cat and muffler on our trucks, and I wanna hear some turbo whistle. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... rgreen.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':mrgreen:' />

i agree 100% Hesh, but i know when i have to haul the boat or run a long grade the factory tune on these is lacking power...

I think on a 96 you can just chip the ECU, you just add an epromm chip to a service port on the ECU, usually they are only about $250 to $300. and if you want to return it to stock you just have to pop the chip out.
you should also look at the "feed the beast" mod its supposed to help maintain fuel pressure to the injector pump under load.

Hey, why all the complaining about power? I have a 95 with no super charger!! not much you can do with it for power, but has done everything I have ever wanted it to. I agree and disagree. just the fuel savings because of better mapping on ECU will outwin the stock settings, H1 is safnificantly needs a tuneup and Predator acieved a good job, my buddy has twin cam turbo 2008 F-350 and that pig used to suck more fuel than my truck 32/l00kms average - with stock ECU, once he change the unit it went down to 20 and under - just by having new computer and a kit installed...
