[heres a different route to go

in the early models 87 humvee had the park brake setup on a seperate caliper on the driveline input shaft of the differential

instead of dual cables going to each caliper it only had one

it was a disk brake setup something they should have kept

just a thougth parts are available

or yes you can put front calipers on rear or add bigger springs to pull the cable back

every time i used parkprake i had to go underneath and pry the lever back

calipers are cheap there the same as a 80's amc eagle 32 bucks each been running them since last year no issues

also a good plan i installed flex lines for the next poor fella who does pads dont brake the lines



heres a pic of the one im putting on my hummer

once you have this you can run same calipers all around

there off the early humvee 87

you need bracket yolk and coupling

Thanks for the info, also to reply to your PM, the conversion is going great as today was the first real day that i had a good drive in it. Logged about 30 miles which lead me to finding my brake problem but she runs great and smooth 120 kph highway cruising. Also now with it having selectable 2 or 4wd and the extra power it will smoke the tires coming out of a turn pretty easily.

with that setup it looks like the drive shaft would be able to stay the same length? Do you know where I can buy those items?

sounds like a caliper problem to me.check cable four sticking.caliper lever must be al the way back. note front caliper will fit on rear not recomended though. drive shaft e brakes are poor dont hold well

[ i would have to say i disagree i know of 2 humvees now that have driveline brakes and hold better then mine

if you consider the ratio in reverse its 2 to 1 at the diff meaning more holding power at the park brake

at the front of differential is almost 5 to 1

just a thougth though



the whole point of the idea is to prevent roasting the rear brakes and still have a working park brake as people are considering putting front calipers on rear

we all have this issue use the park brake guess what your getting out prying your lever back , thats why i figures i would try the driveline brake they dont stick and only have one cable and enough spring to always return

I agree Darcy!



I also figure if somebody is resourceful enough they could fab up a bracket that allows you to position 2 parking brake calipers on the driveline and use the 2 existing e-brake cables one to actuate each caliper... double the holding power and some redundancy.



I might make a trip to the local NAPA this weekend and see how much a set of reman front calipers are, and try test fitting them.

I haven't had my cables connected for a while now just to rule that out. The problem is in the caliper but why? and why always the rear right? This is the second time for me and a lot of other hummer h1 owners.

I went to NAPA today and had them overnight me a set, they cost $50 each (new). I plan on putting them on this weekend and will let you know how it works out.

They went on in just an hour, very easy. They weren't new but reman and cost $50 before a $17 discount. All said and done I was able to do the back brakes (calipers and pads) for under $100. Very pleased with the results

good to hear mine have held up nicely as well allot cheaper to replace
